Für das Apple iOS 5.0.1 kann man seit geraumer Zeit einen untethered Jailbreak finden, der aber nicht alle Devices abdeckt, die mit iOS 5.0.1 kompatibel sind. Es fehlen nämlich sowohl das Apple iPhone 4S als auch das Apple iPad 2, da beide mit einem Apple A5-Prozessor ausgerüstet sind, dieser aber ein anderes Bootrom besitzt und entsprechend schwerer zu knacken ist.
Allerdings hat Entwickler pod2g bereits über seinen Blog verlauten lassen, dass er den untethered Jailbreak schon für iPhone 4S und iPad 2 besitzt, diesen aber noch nicht als Download freigeben darf. Der Grund dafür ist, dass der Jailbreak nur mit einem Apple Developer Account nutzbar ist, über den nur wenige iOS-Nutzer verfügen. Laut pod2g stellt sich der Sachverhalt folgendermaßen dar:
The exploit I used to inject the untethering files to the 4S relies on having a developer account, and can’t be released publicly.
It’s the same reason why @MuscleNerd has an iPad 2 tethered jailbreak but couldn’t distribute it.
So, we need to find a distributable exploit to remount the system partition read/write and to set Corona files at the correct places.
